OR Are you looking to explore the grand possibilities of a becoming an artist? Then this is the drawing class for you! Regardless of your amount of experience, desired drawing style, subject preference, or preference of media, this class will assist in your growth as a 2-D artist.
Ultimately, this class will introduce, focus on and incorporate art fundamentals, more properly known as, the Elements of Art and the Principles of design. Typically, each lesson will focus on a specific element of art. In each lesson, to connect class content knowledge to student drawing application, historical and contemporary masters will be featured. In addition, tips, techniques, and common strategies will be shared to strengthen students’ ease and confidence when drawing. Finally, instruction will cover ways of “building up” an artwork to transcend sketches into masterpieces. The essential materials are a variety of Pencils, 2H-8B, erasers, and sketch pad (approximately 11” x 14”). You are welcome to explore with other materials. Need materials? I can provide you with all the necessary materials for the lesson, for a $5 fee, paid directly to the instructor at the beginning of class. Hope to see you there.

Would you like to learn how to paint with Oil, but don’t know where to start? Are you looking to further your oil painting ability? OR Are you looking to explore the grand possibilities of a new medium? Then this is the painting class for you! As a long time, professional oil painter and fine art educator, David holds a plentiful amount of experience in producing and teaching various styles of oil painting. Regardless of your amount of experience, desired painting style, or subject preference, this class will assist in your growth as an oil painter and artist.
Against common belief, oil paint is the perfect medium for painting enthusiasts, because it is more forgiving than other mediums. This allows artists to make substantial improvements throughout the painting process without having to start all over.
Ultimately, this class will guide you step by step, starting with the best materials for oil painting. Next, in each lesson to connect class content knowledge to student painting application, historical and contemporary masters will be featured. Along with color mixing, the primary goal of instruction will address the importance of creating a sketch and dynamic compositions in paint. Finally, instruction will cover the various layers of “building up” an oil painting to reach the end goal.
Need materials? There are 3 options: 1.) Email me at davidsimpson.art79@yahoo.com for a material list or 2.) I can provide you with all the necessary materials, including a canvas for the painting class on the day of instruction for $15 fee paid directly to the instructor at the start of class or 3.) At check in, you can buy a starter kit directly from the gallery for $25, this includes essential paints, medium, brushes, palette and 1 canvas. See you there!
